Dungeons & Dragons
The OG role-playing game. Suddenly, it’s everywhere: Stranger Things, Critical Role; it even has its own movie. But it can be a little hard to get into or to find a game.
I’ve got both those problems covered! Forever GM specialises in beginner-friendly Dungeons and Dragons games. You can find games online or in person. I’ll even come to you!
Beginner-friendly games don’t mean they’re boring for experienced players either. I create games that are super fun for experienced and new players to play together.
You’ll find Forever GM games for adults, Under 15s, and whānau to play together. We all love to play a hero, regardless of our age. So when you’re ready to adventure - I’ve got a game for you.
When you play a Forever GM game, you’ll have everything you need supplied - whether it’s dice and character sheets for in-person games or immersive digital maps and soundscapes for online games - you’ll get the very best. And my background in performance and comedy means you’ll meet lots of interesting, quirky and fun characters in your adventures.
Dungeons & Dragons for Under 15s
Once upon a time, I was a teacher. So, I love running games for Under-15s and introducing them to Dungeons & Dragons. Parents can relax for a couple of hours, knowing their young person is in the hands of an experienced professional who will help them learn, keep them safe, and make it fun!
Forever GM Under 15 sessions are for rangatahi aged 10 to 15. Your young person will find themselves in a group of up to 6 young people around their age. Under 15s sessions are a fast-paced 2-hour session, so there’s no chance of getting bored, and I’ll make sure that even the shyest adventurer gets as much of the spotlight as they want. The best Dungeons and Dragons sessions for kids are the ones they want to rave to you about in the car ride home - and it’s my aim to make sure they get just that.
Currently, all Forever GM Under 15 sessions are in-person and held at Titahi Bay Studios and Lounge in Titahi Bay.
Experienced pro
Every Under 15s session is run by an experienced professional who was once a young adventurer themselves.
Give yourself a break
Leave your rangatahi for a couple of hours. There’s even an awesome cafe right next door. If they are a little more nervous we’ve got space for you to hang out while they play (or at least while they get started)
Get them kitted out
Although your young person gets everything they need to play, if they want to continue the adventures at home or elsewhere, they can take their characters with them. You can also grab dice, accessories and even starter kits.
How a Forever GM session goes
In-person
All you need to do is turn up!
When you arrive, I’ll check whether you’ve played before so I know what you need from the session. Then you’ll get a chance to pick a character from our selection of pre-made characters. Don’t know what to choose? No problem. You’ll get all the help you need to choose a character that’s fun to play.
There will also be pencils, rubbers and dice - the other important things you need to play.
Once everyone has arrived, we'll do a short check-in to make sure there’s no content during your session that you find uncomfortable. And then we’re adventuring.
During the session, no question is a dumb question. Don’t understand how something works? Just ask. Not sure what to do next? Ask away. The great thing about Dungeons and Dragons players is that everyone is usually ready to help.
Online
You’ll need a computer and a camera and mic setup. That’s it.
I’ll be in touch before the session with links to the Virtual Tabletop (where we’ll play the game) and the Discord channel, which we use for chat before, during, and after the game. You’ll have a chance to pick a character from our selection of pre-made characters. If you’re not sure how to pick, how to log on, or what happens next, I’m available in Discord chat to help.
On the day of the session, you’ll log in to Discord and the Virtual Tabletop. I’m always around 15 to 20 minutes before so you can ask any questions and meet your fellow adventurers,
Then it’s pretty much the same as an in-person session: a short check-in to make sure there’s no content during your session that you find uncomfortable. And then we’re adventuring.
What Forever GM Dungeons & Dragons players think
Got Questions? Here’s some Answers
-
Usually Fifth Edition, the 2024 version. Sometimes called 5.5e. I grew up on 1st and 2nd editions, though. So you might find me offering something old-school every now and then.
-
Absolutely! If you’ve got your own dice, bring ‘em! Players often bring their own gear, and that’s fine. One player once brought handwarmers for the whole table!
-
For online games, it’s usually pretty easy to work in a custom character for you. For in-person games, if you have a character of the right level, bring them along, and I’ll just check them out before we start. All your characters need to use official classes and species though…
-
Absolutely not. I do, and some other players might, but you do things your way. If you get confident and want to try a character voice - do it!
-
Yes, you can! Lots of my players come by themselves. It’s a great way to meet people.
